Yanukovych Expects Cabinet To Register Draft Law On Public Television And Radio Before May

President Viktor Yanukovych expects the Cabinet of Ministers to register a draft law with the Verkhovna Rada on public television and radio before the end of April.

He gave his position to the press in Pavlohrad, Dnipropetrovsk region.

“I will ask the prime minister to consider the draft law at a meeting of the government and send it to the Verkhovna Rada. I think this will take a week or two, not more,” he said.

Yanukovych said the work on the draft law is virtually completed.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the European Union believes one of the reasons of infringement on freedom of speech in Ukraine is absence of public television and radio.

In June 2009, the Verkhovna Rada refused to create public television and radio in place of state television and radio companies.
