Number Of Mobile-Telephone Operators’ Subscribers Down To 53.7 Million

In January, the number of subscribers of Ukrainian mobile-telephone operators fell by 0.6% or 0.32 million to 53.69 million. Ukrainian News has learned this from results of a research conducted by iKS-Consulting, a wording of which was made available to the agency. In particular, the combined number of subscribers to the services of Kyivstar and Beeline (Ukrainian Radiosystems and Golden Telecom companies) made up 24.33 million, the number of subscribers to MTS' services made up 18.21 million, and to the services of Astelit company (life:) brand) 9.02 million. The rest of subscribers belong to the biggest telecommunications company Ukrtelecom and three CDMA operators. As Ukrainian News earlier reported, in December 2010, the number of subscribers of Ukrainian mobile-telephone operators fell by 0.5% to 54.01 million.

Kyivstar Introduces Talks & Write Tariff For Djuice Subscribers

The Kyivstar telecommunication operator has introduced the Talk & Write tariff plan for subscribers of the Djuice prepaid services. "Under the conditions of the new tariff plan Talk & Write, Djuice subscribers have special tariff of 0 kopecks per minute of talk and obtain 100 free SMSes to communicate with Kyivstar, Golden Telecom and Beeline during a day after connection of the tariff," the report said. The connection fee within the tariff is UAH 0.35. In the frames of the tariff plan, the cost of calls to numbers of other Ukrainian operators is UAH 0.85 per minute, an SMS to numbers of Ukrainian mobile communication operators is UAH 0.5 and to numbers of foreign operators UAH 1.2, and MMS to numbers of Ukrainian mobile communication operators — UAH 1, MMS to foreign operators' numbers — UAH 5, and also WAP access to Internet is UAH 12 per MB and GPRS access — UAH 6 per MB. Besides, the tariff and free SMSes are provided as soon as a subscriber top-up his mobile account with a scratch-card or electronic voucher and in case the account is topped up for amount of UAH 30 in one payment. As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Kyivstar telecommunications operator has introduced the Simple, Business 40, Business 80, and Business 120 tariff plans for corporate subscribers.

Number Of Cable Television Subscribers Up By 1% To 3.5 Million In Q4

In October-December, the number of cable television subscribers rose by 1% or 35,629 subscribers, compared to the third quarter of 2010, to 3,455,796 subscribers. This was announced in a State Statistics Service report, a copy of which Ukrainian News has obtained. Of this number, 3,442,332 subscribers or 99.6% were household subscribers. 15.8% of the total number or 544,847 subscribers were registered in Kyiv. The number of subscribers in Dnipropetrovsk region comprised 449,740 or 13% of their total number; in Donetsk region, the number of subscribers comprised 326,298 or 9.4% of the total number. Chernivtsi region had the smallest cable television audience — 24,244 subscribers or 0.7% of their total number. In 2010 the number of cable television subscribers rose by 0.2% or 0.008 million subscribers, compared with 2009, to 3,456,000 subscribers. According to specified data, the number of cable television subscribers in 2009 made up 3,448,000.

In October-December 2010, the number of subscribers to Ukrainian mobile-telephone operators shrank by 1.3% or 0.683 million to 53.920 million (as of refined data, the number of subscribers in the third quarter made up 54.603 million). The State Statistics Service announced this in a statement, a copy of which Ukrainian News has obtained. In particular, among the population 30.167 million people are subscribers, that is by 1.8% less, compared with the third quarter of 2010. According to data of the State Statistics Service, for Kyiv falls 8.635 million of subscribers or 16.01% of the total number; for Donetsk region — 5.235 million or 9.71%, for Dnipropetrovsk region — 3.551 million or 6.59%, for Odesa region — 2.636 million or 4.89%, and for Kharkiv region — 3.414 million or 6.33%. In 2010, the number of subscribers to Ukrainian mobile-telephone operators decreased by 2.5% compared with 2009, from 55.321 million to 53.920 million. As Ukrainian News earlier reported, in 2009, the number of subscribers to Ukrainian mobile-telephone operators fell by 0.6% compared with 2008, from 55.682 million to 55.321 million. According to the iKS-Consulting agency, in 2008 the number of the mobile-telephone operators' subscribers in Ukraine rose by 0.6% or 0.32 million compared with the previous year, to 55.9 million.

Number Of Subscribers To Fixed-Line Telephone Services 0.5% Down To 12.3 Million In Q4

The number of subscribers to fixed-line telephone services fell by 0.5% or 58,000 to 12.286 million in October-December, comparing with the third quarter of 2010. The State Statistics Committee announced this in a statement, a text of which Ukrainian News obtained. The number of home telephone devices totaled 10.156 million or about 82.7% of all telephone devices. In the fourth quarter of 2010, the number of telephone devices in the municipal telephone network totaled 10.654 million that is an 0.5% decrease, compared with the third quarter of 2010. Out of these, 8.661 million were home telephones. The number of telephone devices in the rural areas fell by 0.4% to 1.632 million in the fourth quarter, including 1.495 million home telephones. Kyiv has the largest number of telephone devices: 1.529 million or 12.4% of the total number in Ukraine. In 2010, the number of subscribers to fixed-line telephone services fell by 0.6% or 76,000 to 12.362 million, comparing with 2009. As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the number of subscribers to fixed-line telephone services fell by 0.02% or 2,000 to 12.344 million in July-September, comparing with the second quarter of 2010. In 2009, the number of subscribers to fixed-line telephone services fell by 1% or 128,000 to 12.362 million. Ukrtelecom, Ukraine's largest telecommunications company, has a 78% share of the fixed-line telephone market in Ukraine, providing services to over 10.1 million subscribers. The other major players on the market — the Optima Telecom and Farlep companies — provide services to about 700,000 subscribers and jointly control 8% of the market. The Golden Telecom company controls about 4% of the fixed-line telephone market and provide services to more than 110,000 phone-lines.
