Kyivstar Introduces Services “Package 20 SMS” And Package 10 MMS”

The Kyivstar telecommunication operator has introduced services "Package 20 SMS" and "Package 10 MMS" for subscribers of Beeline (the Ukrainian Radiosystems Company) from April 6. Ukrainian News learned this from a statement by Kyivstar. The effect of package messages is one week. The cost of the service of SMS is UAH 3/week, the cost of service of MMS is UAH 2/week. As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Kyivstar telecommunications operator and the Beeline mobile communications operator (the Ukrainian Radiosystems and Golden Telecom companies) ended the period of October-December 2010 with a net profit of UAH 514.1 million. On October 5, 2009, the Altimo company (Russia) and Telenor agreed to merge Kyivstar and VimpelCom to create a new cellular communications operator, VimpelCom Ltd. (Bermuda islands), to provide integrated cellular communications services in Russia, Ukraine, and other member-countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States, as well as in Georgia, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. Kyivstar and Beeline intend to complete their merger by 2014.

MTS Lowers Cost Of SMSes For Access To VKontakte

On March 1, the MTS Ukraine mobile communication operator lowered cost of SMSes to numbers 10715 and 10716 for access to VKontakte social network by 51.3% or 20 kopecks to 19 kopecks per message. To reply to personal SMSes in VKontakte and comment upon statuses of friends, a subscriber should send SMSes to short numbers 10715 and 10716. Earlier, the cost of SMSes had been 39 kopecks per message. As Ukrainian News earlier reported, in October 2010, MTS Ukraine mobile communications operator on October 22 introduced a service of free notifications about events in users' accounts in the VKontakte social internet network. With help of the SMS VKontakte service subscribers can receive free text notifications about new private messages and their friends' new statuses, the subscribers are free to adjust the periodicity and time of delivery of SMSes convenient to them. The service allows sending replies to private messages via SMSes and comment on VKontakte friends' statuses. They have to send outgoing SMSes to the numbers 10715 and 10716; the messages charged under the subscriber's tariff plan. Receipt of notifications can be adjusted in the VKontakte use account: choose My Settings and go to the Notifications section.

Kyivstar Provides SMS/MMS By E-Mail Service

The Kyivstar mobile communication operator has provided an SMS/MMS by e-mail service from January, the company says in a press-release. Thus, subscribers can receive text and a multimedia messages, audio files through e-mail. The subscribers will receive SMSs and MMSs both in Ukraine and being in roaming. An SMS should be not longer than 765 symbols of Roman letters and 335 symbols of Cyrillic letters, while multimedia contents (MMS) can be up to 1 megabyte. To connect to the service a subscriber should send a text message with any content to 7021. To send an SMS from computer one should write an address in a 380ХХХХХХХХX@sms.kyivstar.net format; for an MMS — 380ХХХХХХХХX@mms.kyivstar.net where 380ХХХХХХХХX is an addressee's phone number. The service will be rendered free until February 28. However, the operator does not specify service tariffs as of March 1. As Ukrainian News reported, Kyivstar generated a profit of NOK 5.1 billion with a net income being down by 34.6% or NOK 4.787 billion to NOK 9.047 billion in 2009 compared with 2008.

life:) Integrates SMS With Twitter Social Network

The Astelit mobile communications operator, which renders services under the life:) brand, has introduced an SMS-integration service with the Twitter social network as of December 24, the company announced. life:) subscribers with accounts on Twitter may read transmitted messages or send their owns through a mobile phone. To use the service, one should register on the Twitter website or send a registration message writing a word START to 404404. The service is fulfilled free, SMS costs according to a subscriber's tariff plan. As Ukrainian News reported, Astelit on July 17 introduced a service of free notifications about events to users' accounts in the VKontakte social internet network. Astelit reported a loss of USD 111.8 million for the year 2009, when its net revenues reduced by USD 87.6 million or 19.9% to USD 351.1 million compared with 2008. The Turkcell company (Turkey) owns 54.8% of the shares in Astelit while the System Capital Management corporation (Donetsk) owns 45.2%.

The cost of photos upload on the Facebook is equal to the standard cost of an MMS.
