Nokia Siemens Networks drives evolution to TD-LTE

Telecom operators across the globe can now gain quick and simple access to LTE-based mobile broadband for unpaired frequency bands. At the Next Generation Mobile Networks (NGMN) Industry Conference today, Nokia Siemens Networks announced that it has fully integrated TD-LTE with its existing mobile platforms including base stations and core networks. The company also showcased the industry’s first concurrent TD-SCDMA and TD-LTE demo. The co-existence of the two technologies is a significant step towards facilitating operators’ transition to TD-LTE and was conducted on Nokia Siemens Networks’ Flexi Multiradio Base Station.

New GSM Base Station and Antenna Combination Doubles Capacity

Nokia Siemens Networks’ new base station and antenna combination doubles GSM network capacity by improving spectrum efficiency and network performance. Nokia Siemens Networks today unveiled its new offering that optimizes existing GSM network investments as well as new deployments. Communications Service Providers (CSPs) can now boost their GSM base station capacity by up to 100% within their existing spectrum to support drastically increasing subscriber numbers and provide a better mobile experience.

TD-LTE Ecosystem Reaches Maturity with Landmark Data Call

Marking an important milestone in TD-LTE commercialization, Samsung and Nokia Siemens Networks have successfully conducted the world’s first TD-LTE data call using a prototype end-user device. The demonstration proved the interoperability of Nokia Siemens Networks’ end to end TD-LTE network solution with Samsung’s TD-LTE USB dongle.

Nokia Siemens Networks Gears up to Exploit Digital Dividend

Operators will soon be able to extend the reach of mobile broadband services by exploiting the “Digital Dividend” radio spectrum becoming available as countries switch from analog to digital terrestrial TV. Ahead of the digital dividend spectrum auction currently underway in Germany, Nokia Siemens Networks has begun production of its LTE-ready Flexi Multiradio Base Station radio frequency modules for 800 MHz. The 800 MHz frequency band is particularly attractive for deployment in rural areas due to its greater reach, enabling operators to meet their mobile broadband access targets cost efficiently.

EU Funded Collaboration Results in Simpler 100 Gigabit Ethernet Networks

Telecom operators will soon have a simpler option for upgrading optical networks directly to 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) thanks to technology developed with funding from the European Union. Field trials of the HECTO (high-speed electro-optical components for integrated transmitter and receiver in optical communications) project’s technology have demonstrated that 100GbE networks can be deployed that are less complex than before.

Operators Can Now Migrate Cost-Efficiently to Next-Generation Wireless Networks

Operators can now offer their subscribers more compelling data services at attractive prices. In recent customer projects, Nokia Siemens Networks has tested and proven how its all-IP FlexiPacket Radio microwave solution successfully interoperates with the Tellabs 8600 family for IP/MPLS networks. Such a combination – as part of Nokia Siemens Networks’ mobile backhaul solution – enables operators to migrate legacy networks to fully packet-based technology for faster data routing at lower costs.
