Ukrainian blogs today – Yandex viewpointAccording to Yandex.ru, Russian search engine company, the Ukrainian users have more than 420 000 blogs and about 20 000 communities. That is 70% more than 6 months earlier and 3.5 times more than 1.5 years ago.
There are 15% blogs and 13% communities may be considered as active ones.
About 80% of all Ukrainian blogs (both active and non-active) are hosted on 3 blog hostings: LiveJournal.com, Blogs.Mail.ru and LiveInternet.ru. Four Ukrainian blog hostings (Dnevnik.Bigmir.net, Blog.I.ua, Blog.Meta.ua and Blox.ua) host about 15 Ukrainian blogs.
Twitter.com is growing rapidly (9 times)in Ukraine for the last 6 months having reached about 5 000 accounts with 90% of active ones.
Great majority of personal blogs (73%) and communities (95%) have been registered in 8 Ukrainian cities with Kiev, Odessa and Kharkov at top of the list.
An average statistical Ukrainian blogger is a 22 year-old girl living in Kiev. She has 19 friends (9 mutual ones) and participates in 13 communities. Her blog is about 1.5 year-old and has 21 subscribers.
Above 75% of Ukrainian bloggers are youngsters (15 - 29 y.o.).
Every week day the Ukrainian bloggers add about 20 000 posts and approximately 60 000 comments.

Twitter users in Ukraine reached 16 thousandNumber of Ukrainian blogs based on Twitter microblog service amounted to 16 thousand. It is said in the special study by Yandex search company.
The company reported that 33.5% of users in Ukraine make daily Twitter posts. More than 10 thousand Tweets (posts) appear in the Ukrainian Twitter every day.
President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, ex-Speaker Arseniy Yatsenyuk, and other Ukrainian celebrities have their own Twitter accounts.

New blogs to focuse on swine flu situation in UkraineThe 2009 flu pandemic is a global outbreak of a new strain of influenza A virus subtype H1N1, termed Pandemic H1N1/09 virus by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Ukraine is not out of this notorious event. The well-known social network sites like twitter and livejournal accomodated a few blogs that reflect swine flu (A/H1N1) situation in Ukraine.

BUBA 2009 will be held for the second consecutive year. The event aims to determine the highest quality and the most popular Ukrainian blogs and choose the best of them. The winners will be announced on November 7, at the conference MediaCamp Kyiv 2009.
The winners will be determined in five nominations: personal, thematic, corporate, mikroblog and blog community.
From October 12 to 26, anyone can register the own blog on the contest page http://mediacamp.org.ua/buba - only registered blogs will take part in an open voting, which will determine the best bloggers in Ukraine. In each category the five finalists wiill be determined, and winners will be selected at a closed ballot by independent experts.
