SBU Files Criminal Case Against Intertelecom on Suspicion of Smuggling Telecommunications Equipment

intertelecomThe Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has filed a criminal case against the Odesa-based Intertelecom company, an operator of fixed-line telephone in the CDMA standard, on suspicion of smuggling telecommunications equipment.

The press service of the SBU announced this in a statement.

The SBU filed the criminal case under Section 1, Article 201 of the penal Code (smuggling).

According to the SBU, it has been established that officials of Intertelecom presented documents containing false information about the volume of the company’s cargo to customs officials.

According to an expert assessment, the company imported telecommunications equipment worth more than UAH 4 million.

According to the SBU, the state budget lost almost UAH 0.5 million in customs revenues as a result of the actions of Intertelecom officials.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Intertelecom was the first nationwide CDMA operator in Ukraine.

It provides local and mobile telephone services in the CDMA standard in 21 regions of the country.
