The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has allocated the “.укр” (.ukr) national domain to Ukraine, press service of the Cabinet of Ministers said.
Chairman of the State agency for science, innovations and information Volodymyr Semynozhenko said that the decision is an important step towards creation of information-oriented society in Ukraine, as information resources would become more affordable thanks to opportunity to use Ukrainian language in their addresses.
He noted that to switch to the national domain, respective preparation of the technical infrastructure is required.
He said that the work will be held in the frames of coordination council of the Ukrainian network information center created in 2003.
According to the report, in 2010, Russia obtained .рф (.rf) national domain.
